A Hash Campout

Cost: Free/Pay as you go

Trail run/ paddling/ delicious meat/ backpacking/ day drinking in Beaver Lake/ camping for $15!

Help us honor our promise to our fallen fellow Wanker of Oz, "Meat", a grill master and meat-smoker extraordinaire. He scouted a combination kayak/ run/ delicious meat trail for his first haring at our kennel but was called On-Up before he could experience it with us.

A soldier, a police officer, and a hasher through and through, Meat said he wanted us to have fun on land and water, be challenged, make sketchy choices/memories, and end up full of meat and beer. Let's do it!

Your choice: Hash on Saturday only (combination trail run/ delicious grilled lunch/ lake paddle/ hike to circle/ hash to shuttle/ get shuttled to car) for $10

Or bring your own backpacking gear and stay at the circle location: hike-in primitive campsites on a mountain above the lake, where dinner, coolers of beer, and shots of excellent fireside whiskey will be waiting for us. Then hike/ paddle a short distance Sunday morning to catch a ride back to your car by 1 pm.

Meat is the honorary hare. Other hares are Senator Diggler Pornstar, Armadildo, and Juicy Cougar Meal-in-camp.

Pay in person at the event. Rego here because spots are limited. No swag, just honoring a friend. Once you put your email in this rego you will get an email with further instructions and can ask any questions via reply or at the phone number listed below. Limit 25 hashers.

Trail is mostly dirt/ rock park trails with low shiggy; 3/4 mile dry bushwack with med- high shiggy; flat paddling; med- high elevation changes.

If you can bring your own kayak or canoe, please do; but no worries if you can't. 10+ seats are available in our Wankers of Oz boats for the first few who text 501-773-1738 to claim them. For the paddling part, bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses you don't love, and whatever shoes/ clothes you want to get wet. We have water bottles.

Lunch will be grilled for you lakeside on Saturday and all the beer/ water/ electrolyte joos you can drink will be provided. A smaller but still filling dinner will be served up the mountain that night for those who stay. You must bring your own breakfast for Sunday morning. We really do love our vegans and vegetarians, but we couldn't provide it all this time around. We would love to help transport your food to the lunch spot for you if you want to bring your own, though.

If you are only staying for Saturday, a shuttle will be provided for you back to your car after the circle. If you brought your own boat we can shuttle your boat back. We will confirm arrangements via email.

If you are doing the backpacking part, bring the following gear: A backpack. You will only have to carry it for 1/2 mi up a rocky trail and down again the next day. Bring a tent with a small footprint. Or hammock; there are plenty of trees (or a ground cloth or bivvy if you're into that). Bring whatever sleep system you have that's light enough to haul up. Bring deet and light and shoes that you can walk up a rocky slope in. We have some extra gear if you don't have any. Call and ask before we run out.

We will have a communal 3L Platypus gravity filter system you can replenish water with. Be prepared in case of rain (or don't, we won't judge your damp ass). The Wankers of Oz are only gonna lug up your dinner and the amount of beer/ water / whiskey we think is needed for hash survival. So if you want excess beer or any nondinner snacks, haul them up in your own backpack. You're allowed to bring anything instrumental/ games/ shareables /consumables. Wear whatever. Rangers don't often hike up that far; we are probably alone up there and with no neighbors and no rules.

If you have to ask about the bathroom situation at camp, you have packed too much gear. Unpack and reduce by half. We'll teach you how to make an 8" cathole on a granite rock hillside.

Mid October is famously the most beautiful time of year in this part of Arkansas. Find yourself on a hilltop over a beautiful lake, under a dark sky full of stars, around a campfire with friends and a full stomach and a beer in your hand, after a long day of hashing. It doesn't get any better than this.

On-on!

Schedule of Events

9:30-10 am meet at Historic Van Winkle Trailhead Parking on Highway 12 at Hobbs State Park in Arkansas. For Google maps the coordinates are 36.296954,-93.958246. It doesn't always transfer reliably into other map apps

If you are bringing a boat or backpack, a Wanker from Oz will shuttle them to the launch point. Boats/ gear will be supervised there.

Chalk talk will be around 10:30 or whenever boats/ gear are loaded. We will hash to the launch point.

If we get there too early we will drink beer and talk and soak in the lake getting drunk while lunch is being grilled by our amazing grill master, Dildo. While waiting we will load backpacks into the gear canoe to be shuttled to the takeout.

Estimated lunch from 1-2 pm. After, we paddle for about an hour.

Estimated arrival at takeout point 3pm

Those who have backpacks carry them and those who do not just walk. We go up the hill about a half mile to the campsites and immediately have circle.

The goal is for circle to begin at 3: 30 p.m. at the latest.

After circle those who are going home will hash out to the shuttle point to catch a ride back to their cars with a sober Wanker from Oz.. The hashing distance to that shuttle point is 3 ish miles of dirt trail and pavement. Goal is for everyone to reach start point by 6 pm.

Those who are camping stay to set up camp and eat dinner whenever they want, then sit around the fire telling lies with great skill and making questionable choices.

Wake up at 9 ish, eat the breakfast you brought, pack up the camp.

Wait for the others and walk as a group 1/2 mile downhill to the boats with your gear. Paddle the short route to the launch point.

Be shuttled along with your boat back to your car by a Wanker from Oz. It's a flexible schedule, but the goal is for the last load of boats and people to be back at start by 1pm. It could be earlier than that if everyone wants to get started earlier.
